Jordan Love won't practice until he gets an extension done, so the Green Bay Packers moved quickly and signed veteran quarterback Jacob Eason to split practice reps.

Eason had worked out for the Packers back in May. He was already on the field during Tuesday's practice, the second day of training camp in Green Bay. He will be the third quarterback, behind Sean Clifford and rookie Michael Pratt, during the activities.

The Packers had also worked out Jake Fromm last Friday, but he won't be signed at this time.

A fourth-round pick in 2020 — the same class of Jordan Love —, Jacob Eason has played for the Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers, Panthers again, and New York Giants. He has two regular season appearances, one for the Colts in 2021 and another for the Panthers in 2022.

Corresponding move

To make room for Eason on the roster, the Packers decided to waive long snapper Peter Bowden. Now, he goes through waivers and if nobody else claims him, the undrafted rookie could potentially be back later during training camp.

At this point, veteran Matthew Orzech is the only long snapper on the 90-man roster.

Approach

Jordan Love reported to training camp on Sunday, but he informed the team that he will hold in — which means he will attend meetings, but won't be on the field for practice until they agree to a contract extension.

Love is under contract through 2024, but he is slated to make only $11 million — a number obviously much lower than his current market value.

As soon as Love signs his new deal, the most likely scenario is that Jacob Eason will be released.
