Green Bay Packers edge defender Rashan Gary suffered a serious knee injury 382 days ago. A little over one year later, he came back to Detroit and had a monster game, paving the way for a 29-22 Packers win over the Lions on Thanksgiving with three sacks and two forced fumbles.

After the game, Gary had an emotional moment in the locker room. Head coach Matt LaFleur gave him the game ball, mentioning the ACL injury and the big performance on Thursday at Ford Field.

This is emotional because the road to recovery isn't easy. But it's also funny because, at this point, Rashan Gary is known for crying a lot — he did it even when the Packers took him with the 12th overall pick back in 2019.

New moment for Gary

It's a different season for Rashan Gary. He had been good last year, but the injury changed everything. Now he's back on the field, playing at a high level, and received a big-time four-year, $96 million contract extension.

On Thursday, Gary forced two fumbles. In one of them, safety Jonathan Owens recovered the ball and returned it to a touchdown.

"I knew I tipped the ball," Gary recalled. "I didn't know what it was going to be. When I got up, I saw J.O. (Jonathan Owens) in the end zone, so I said 'Oh, that's what's up."

Besides the three sacks and two forced fumbles, Gary finished the game with seven tackles.

Gary has had 8.5 sacks this season, including two three-sack games. He's on pace to finish the year with 13 sacks, which would be his career best — and also the first time in which he had double digit sacks in the same season.
