Packers players are suddenly generating buzz around the NFL as free agency quickly approaches
Romeo Doubs didn’t extend his deal before free agency and is set to hit the market.
The Green Bay Packers were not able to reach a contract extension with wide receiver Romeo Doubs ahead of free agency. That was always the expected outcome with the draft picks and the Christian Watson extension made last year, but now Doubs will actually hit the market.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, there is a lot of interest in Doubs around the league — including the San Francisco 49ers.
“Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs plans to hit the market. Talks with Green Bay did not result in a new deal. He’ll have several suitors. The Patriots, Commanders and Titans are closely watching his market, along with the 49ers. Doubs is considered by some evaluators to be the best all-around receiver in the group.” — Jeremy Fowler.
Romeo Doubs led the Packers last year with 724 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Green Bay will soon have an interesting wide receiver situation, because Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks are all entering a contract year.
Rashan Gary situation
The last few days were intense for Rashan Gary. There was a farewell post on his Instagram account, but his representatives indicated it was the action of a hacker.
Anyway, it seems more likely than ever before that the Packers will move on from him — whether it’s via release or trade. Fowler indicated the Cincinnati Bengals as a potential contender for him.
“The team that could prove most aggressive on the defensive free agent market is Cincinnati, which is exploring just about every position group. Edge rusher Rashan Gary is a name to watch here should the Packers move on. New Bengals defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery was with Gary in Green Bay. Cincinnati has been linked to safety Nick Cross and several defensive linemen, too.” — Jeremy Fowler.
Beyond Romeo Doubs, the top free agents include quarterback Malik Willis, left tackle Rasheed Walker, offensive lineman Sean Rhyan, and edge defender Kingsley Enagbare. Another one is off-ball linebacker Quay Walker, who’s widely expected to leave Green Bay after the team acquired Zaire Franklin in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts.
