The Green Bay Packers have made three roster moves on Saturday ahead of the Arizona Cardinals game in Week 7. None of them is more impactful than the decision to elevate running back Pierre Strong Jr. from the practice squad for gameday.

That’s an indication that starter Josh Jacobs, who suffered a calf injury this week, is at real risk of not playing. In this case, Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks should get most of the playing time and carries, but Strong would add depth.

The Packers also elevated edge defender Arron Mosby since Lukas Van Ness was ruled out on Friday due to a foot injury. The most positive update is that Green Bay activated interior offensive lineman Jacob Monk from injured reserve.

Saturday also reserved another reason for concern. Keisean Nixon was added to the injury report with an illness and is questionable to play. Nate Hobbs is also questionable with a knee injury, which puts the secondary in a complicated situation.

NFL rules

The NFL increased the practice squad size during COVID and kept some of the adjusted rules. Of the 16 players, 10 must have up to two accrued seasons, while the other six have no restrictions. There’s also an extra spot for a player with an International Pathway Program exemption—for Green Bay, it’s Irish kicker Mark McNamee.

Throughout the season, teams can elevate practice squad players for gameday. Each player can be elevated three times for the same team without being a member of the active 53-man roster. After the game, the player reverts to the PS.
