Eventually, Aaron Rodgers will return to Green Bay to have number 12 retired and go into the Packers Hall of Fame. That will take some time, though. However, his reconnection in some form with the Green Bay Packers might happen in 2025.
On Friday, Rodgers visited the Pittsburgh Steelers. After the Minnesota Vikings decided to wait, not signing the veteran quarterback for now, Rodgers moved forward in his free agency process and met with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. A decision is not imminent, but it’s a clear step in the direction of Rodgers playing in Pittsburgh next season.
And that could make him encounter the Packers soon. In 2025, Green Bay will play against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The game is scheduled to be played in Pittsburgh, but there’s a report indicating that it can be moved to Dublin, Ireland.
The big question is if the NFL would want to keep such a high-profile game with Rodgers facing the Packers in a morning window in Europe. Rodgers going to the Steelers could ultimately save the Packers from playing in another country for the third time in four seasons—Green Bay played the New York Giants in the United Kingdom in 2022, and the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil last season.
Interesting schedule
Aaron Rodgers would have several intriguing games to play if he signed with the Steelers. Pittsburgh will face AFC East and NFC North teams this season, which means that Rodgers would face his two old divisions once again.
Besides the Packers, Rodgers would play the Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions. And, well, there’s also a game against the New York Jets on the horizon.
The Pittsburgh Steelers seem to be the favorite to land Aaron Rodgers at this point. He is the team’s Plan A after it left Russell Wilson and Justin Fields hit the open market—Fields has already signed with the Jets, while Wilson is still a free agent. The other realistic option for Rodgers is the New York Giants. And guess what, the Packers will also visit the Giants during the 2025 season.
