Green Bay Packers fans don't actually need many reasons to root against the Minnesota Vikings, but they certainly had a good one on Monday night. After the Vikings' loss to the Los Angeles Rams, the Packers won a draft position.
After the final results of the wild card round, which included a Packers' elimination to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, it's decided that Green Bay will have the 23rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Rules
It's questionable how the process works. When we are talking about seeding in the playoffs, division matters — that's why the Vikings and Packers got behind the Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But it doesn't apply for draft positioning.
So the Bucs, for example, will have the 20th pick. Had the Rams lost, Los Angeles would have the 23rd pick, and the Packers would get the 24th selection.
As the Vikings got eliminated, they had a better record than Green Bay, so the Packers stay with the 23rd pick, and the Vikings get the 24th.
The Packers had the same record (11-6) as the Los Angeles Chargers, but the Chargers had the advantage in terms of strength of schedule—the Packers had a tougher schedule, so they get the worse pick.
Draft
The 2025 NFL Draft will be in Green Bay for the first time ever, a special moment for the Packers franchise. We are exactly 100 days away from it.
The Packers will have one selection by each round, except for the seventh round, where they will have two. They traded away their own seventh-rounder to the Tennessee Titans for quarterback Malik Willis, but acquired the Pittsburgh Steelers' one in the Preston Smith deal, and are expected to receive a compensatory pick for losing Yosh Nijman to the Carolina Panthers in free agency.
