The Green Bay Packers could breathe on Thursday because tight end Tucker Kraft’s knee injury isn’t serious or a long-term issue. However, that doesn’t mean Kraft won’t miss time. Head coach Matt LaFleur revealed that Kraft won’t practice on Friday, even though the team will give him until game time to make a final determination.

“He was practicing and got hurt,” LaFleur said. “It’s unfortunate, but it is what it is. I don’t think it’ll be long-term, so that’s a positive. He will not be out there today.”

For Kraft to play, he has to be cleared by the Packers’ doctors and feel comfortable with his knee. The injury was described as a tweak, but there is no structural damage.

New version of the offense

In the first two games of the season, Kraft led the team in receiving yards (140), being the only player to surpass 100. But the Packers’ offense is still capable of spreading the ball around to compensate for that if needed.

“It’s always a challenge, but these things happen in a game as well, so you’ve got to make adjustments,” LaFleur explained. “At least you’ve got some time to make some necessary adjustments, if need be. But I also feel really good about that room, so you’ve just got to adapt and adjust.”

If Kraft can’t play on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, the starting tight end will be former second-rounder Luke Musgrave, who was a full-time starter as a rookie until a series of injuries affected his initial development.

“He’s been going out there and making plays. I thought he had a great practice [on Thursday],” LaFleur said. “We all know the type of player he’s capable of being. Like we’ve talked about so many times, availability has kind of derailed his progress in the past. So I do think that’ll mean more opportunities for Luke. And he’s a guy we think very highly of and are confident can go out there and do a great job for us.”

The secondary option at tight end would be John FitzPatrick, who’s been more of a blocker and special teamer. However, LaFleur trusts him to be an all-around tight end.

“I couldn’t be happier with him in regards to his mindset, how he approaches the game,” LaFleur mentioned. “He plays very physical. I think given more opportunities, he’ll really showcase what he can do because it’s not just in the run game or in pass protection. I think he’s a real viable threat as a receiver as well.”

The Packers release their final injury report after practice, and at that point there will be more clarity about Kraft’s status, but it sounds like he will be listed as questionable to play.
