I've been critical of Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love — I've even suggested he should be traded — but there's no denying that the former Utah State standout looked good against the New Orleans Saints on Friday night.
There was one particular pass from Love, who was selected in the first round (No. 26 overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft, that I found especially impressive against the Saints.
Check out this throw from Love to rookie wide receiver Romeo Doubs in the first quarter.
That may not seem not like a big deal at first glance. But that's a perfect throw. And it's not an easy one to make.
For starters, Love throws it from the right hash across the field, making it a longer throw than some folks probably realize.
Then there's the placement of the throw. The Saints' coverage was good (Doubs ran a really good route though to create a throwing window), but Love put the ball where only Doubs could catch it.
That's a throw that starting NFL quarterbacks make — not quarterbacks who have been relegated to a backup role.
I know it's just one throw, but if Love can consistently make that play, he has a long future in the NFL as a starter.
At this point, consistency (Love missed a couple of easy throws to the flat as well) is Love's biggest obstacle to being great.
