Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love didn't have his fifth-year option picked up earlier this week, but he'll still be with the franchise in 2024.
Love, a first-round pick by Green Bay in 2020, signed a one-year extension through 2024 with the Packers earlier this week.
Green Bay's deal with Love is incentivized, essentially protecting the franchise against poor performance while rewarding Love if he performs at a high level.
Love's deal can be worth up to $24.8 million in 2024.
Only $15.3 million is guaranteed.
On Thursday, NFL Network's Albert Breer provided the details of the "escalators" in Love's contract.
Here's the breakdown:
So for Love to earn the full $24.8 million in 2024, he needs to play at least 65 percent of Green Bay's offensive snaps while doing the following things in 2023:
- Win the Super Bowl (maxes at $3 million with bonuses awarded for each playoff win)
- Finish top 10 in passer rating
- Finish top 10 in completion percentage
- Finish top 10 in touchdown passes
- Finish top 10 in passing yards (the last four max out at $2 million)
- Green Bay has to win 10 games or go to the playoffs or Love has to finish top 10 in passer rating and touchdown passes (maxes at one million)
- Finish top 10 in playing time and top 16 in passer rating
- Finish top 10 in playing time and top 16 in completion percentage
- Finish top 10 in playing time and top 16 in passing yards
- Finish top 10 in playing time and top 16 in passing (the last four max out at $1.5 million)
- Love gets an automatic $500,000 for playing 65 percent of the offensive snaps and he gets $1 million for making a Pro Bowl
There's a lot there for Love to accomplish to get the full $24.8 million. But even if he doesn't accomplish the whole list, he should still be able to earn significantly more than the $15.3 million he's guaranteed, though there's no doubt that Green Bay is hoping they have to pay him the full $24.8 million in 2024.
