The Green Bay Packers offense has been struggling for weeks, now, and a big reason why is Aaron Jones' absence.
Well, that looks like it will change on Sunday against the Denver Broncos, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The NFL insider tweeted posted early Sunday morning that Jones is expected to play in the Week 7 matchup:
However, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero's update is worded and phrased quite differently. Per Pelissero, Jones "intends" to play, "barring a setback":
There's one problem with Pelissero's update: Jones intended to play against the Las Vegas Raiders back in Week 5, but suffered a setback on the Saturday leading up to the game. He was eventually ruled out, which "exasperated" Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, according to former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current Monday Night Football color commentator, Troy Aikman.
Jones' hamstring injury has been a frustrating situation ever since he clearly denied the extent of the injury after Week 1's win over the Chicago Bears.
“It was not a pull,” Jones told reporters. “I’ve pulled my hamstring before and I didn’t really feel a pull. It was just a little bite. Thankful for it, [the Packers are] always looking out for my best interests.”
Since then, Jones has played a total of 20 offensive snaps and has missed three of the subsequent four games.
And, just like in Week 4 against the Lions, it's unclear what kind of role Jones has in this game even if he plays. He could very well be on a pitch count, again, since the Packers are coming off their bye week. LaFleur has been adamant about taking it slow with injuries in the early part of the season in order to hopefully save his guys for the long haul. There's certainly a world in which Jones plays a limited role, thus, limiting his chances to help a struggling offense.
Per Pelissero, Pro Bowl OL Elgton Jenkins is good to go, but All-Pro cornerback, Jaire Alexander, will be a game-time decision. The injury bug is still present, but it at least seems to be getting less and less involved.
