It is officially NFL Draft time. In just a few short hours, all of our questions will be answered, and all rumors will be put to rest.

However, that does not mean we will not be thinking about what could have been. One veteran reporter has recently confirmed a rumor that will keep Texans' fans up at night.

As we all know, the Bears made a massive trade with the Carolina Panthers involving the No. 1 pick. We now know that the trade was almost even more massive.

The Athletic ran a story recently about how the Bears-Panthers deal came to be. It was mentioned in the story that the trade was actually supposed to be two trades. Bears general manager Ryan Poles had his sights on trading down one spot with the Texans and then trading down to No. 9 with the Panthers.

The thinking was that Poles would get maximum value from two teams, thus increasing his overall haul. If the Texans had moved up, NFL insider Jay Glazer is reporting that it would have been for Bryce Young.

For whatever reason, Houston could not come to terms with Chicago, and that part of the deal fell apart. The rest is history, and the Panthers now seem set to select Bryce Young with the No. 1 pick.

With Young almost assuredly going No. 1, the Texans may not select a QB at all. As we approach the draft, the prevailing thought seems to be that the Texans will select a defender or trade back. If Young really was the Texans' QB1, one has to wonder why they balked at moving up.

Perhaps general manager Nick Caserio has a trick of his own up his sleeve. It is worth noting that the Texans do have the No. 12 pick as well, and also control two first-rounders in the 2024 NFL Draft.
