JJ Watt retired after the 2022 NFL season, ending a 12-year career that will end with a golden jacket.

Watt spent a decade in Houston and was recently announced as the newest member of the Texans' Ring of Honor. For years, Watt was the best player on bad Texans' teams and always remained loyal. After the 2020 season, however, Watt requested and was granted his release.

Watt soon signed with the Arizona Cardinals, but many expected the star defender to sign with another AFC team instead.

Watt widely rumored to be interested in signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers. At the time, both of Watt's brothers, Derek and TJ, were on the team.

Over two years after deciding to not sign with his brothers, the eldest Watt finally revealed his reasoning.

"The last thing I was going to do was come in and take any money away from his (TJ) contract," explained Watt. The former Texan admitted it "would have been awesome," to play with his brothers, but ultimately did not want to take away from TJ.

TJ Watt indeed inked a four-year, $112M extension with Pittsburgh in September 2021, just months after JJ signed with Arizona. TJ Watt is the only Watt brother who is still on an NFL roster as Derek is a free agent and JJ is obviously retired.

While JJ never won a championship or got to play with his brothers, he did earn five Pro Bowl selections, and five First-team All-Pro selections, and led the NFL in sacks twice.
