The Texans have continually added and subtracted from the roster this offseason in a bid to be competitive in 2023.
Earlier this week, the team released linebacker Jermaine Carter just one week after signing him. On Friday, the team agreed to terms with another member of the front defensive front seven.
This time, the new addition already has some history with the organization.
Per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Texans have reached a deal with pass-rusher Jacob Martin.
Martin was previously with the Texans from 2019-2021. Notably, Martin was one of the pieces involved in the Jadeveon Clowney trade, being sent to Houston from Seattle along with Barkevious Mingo and a third-round pick.
Martin landed a nice payday during the 2022 off-season, signing a three-year, $16.5M deal with the New York Jets. It would prove to be a short stay in New York, however, as Martin was traded at the 2022 trade deadline. In eight games with the Jets, Martin only collected one sack.
Martin spent the latter half of 2022 with the Denver Broncos, collecting an additional sack in five games. The former Temple Owl hit free agency this offseason and remained on the market until be scooped up by his old team.
The Texans are building solid pass-rushing depth. Martin figures to battle for one of the defensive end spots. Jonathan Greenard and Will Anderson Jr. are the presumptive starters here, so Martin will be competing with guys like Derek Rivers, Dylan Horton, and Demone Harris for a rotational spot.
