General manager Nick Caserio could shock the NFL world on draft night.
At least, that's what multiple NFL insiders are saying. Adam Schefter appeared on NFL Live on Wednesday and raised the possibility of the Texans not selecting a quarterback.
"I'm not convinced yet that they're (Texans) going to take a quarterback," proclaimed Schefter.
Media personalities Pat McAfee and Rich Eisen both addressed the rumors on Wednesday. McAfee brought up the idea of the Texans perhaps pursuing Lamar Jackson. Eisen was in complete disbelief that Houston could take a position player.
Schefter is not the only insider who has heard rumors about the Texans looking elsewhere at No. 2.
Peter Schrager of GMFB and Fox Sports joined the Pat McAfee Show and added that he has also heard that the Texans are "not a lock to go quarterback at number two."
Schrager mentioned that the Texans could potentially like a non-QB prospect more than they like CJ Stroud or Bryce Young.
"If the Texans don't fall in love with both Bryce Young and CJ Stroud there could be a big shakeup to start the draft," said Schrager.
As Eisen mentioned on his show Wednesday, the Arizona Cardinals could stand to be the biggest benefactor of the Texans not selecting a QB. With the Cardinals presumably not in the market for a QB, teams would be blowing up the phone line to trade for the No. 3 pick.
Perhaps adding more credence to this rumor is the fact that DeMeco Ryans is now the head coach in Houston. There is a greater-than-zero chance that Ryans could be in love with a defensive prospect like Will Anderson Jr.
No matter who goes first, it seems we are gearing up for a wild 2023 NFL Draft.
Stay tuned for the latest news and rumors as we approach Draft Day.
