The NFL schedule for the 2023 season was recently released. With free agency, the draft, and the schedule release all behind us, football season is inching closer.
While always exciting to see your team's schedule, Houston fans all likely noticed one detail- The Texans are one of just four teams without a prime-time game.
First-year head coach DeMeco Ryans did not react to this news that many were expecting, however.
Ryans held a presser on Friday and fielded questions about the schedule, rookies, and more.
When asked about the Texans' first game being at Baltimore, Ryans took time to address the team not having a prime-time game. Ryans had the following to say:
You know, with that schedule, right, not having any primetime games, you know, that's the one thing that we kind of look forward to. One thing that I've learned is I've just looked at it as for us as a team, we have to go out and earn, earn our right to be in those primetime moments. So it was a good opportunity for our team to just go out, put our heads down, and work and just prove where we belong. Excited about it.
Interestingly, Ryans declared his excitement about having zero prime-time games. Explaining himself, Ryans mentioned that the team is excited to prove themselves and get to work. Ryans described it as "an opportunity to put our heads down and prove where we belong."
The Texans will certainly have plenty of opportunities to prove themselves in 2023. The team has one of the lowest projected win totals in the AFC, at 5.5 wins.
If the Texans can outperform expectations, having no prime-time games will not be a problem in the 2024 season.
