The Texans have done a fantastic job of adding talent to this roster this off-season. Both the offensive and defensive lines underwent a much-needed talent injection.

The team selected OL Juice Scruggs in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft and traded for OG Shaq Mason. With both tackle spots and one guard spot set, the Texans still have to figure out who will man the other two spots.

One national media outlet had a suggestion.

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports recently wrote a piece identifying landing spots for remaining free agents.

One notable inclusion was veteran OL Ben Jones. Jones was drafted by the Texans back in the 2012 NFL Draft. Jones turned into a solid center for the Texans for several years.

Jones signed with the Tennessee Titans before the 2016 season, and started for the team until his release in March of this year.

Jones has yet to sign elsewhere, but Benjamin believes the center could be in for a reunion. Houston was picked as the best landing spot for Jones.

Regarding that idea, Benjamin said:

They've got the big pieces in place at quarterback and pass rusher with C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson Jr. Now it's time to ensure Stroud can stay upright; while the tackle spots are OK, Houston could stand to beef up the interior. Jones began his career with the Texans before a long run in Tennessee, and both he and rookie Juice Scruggs have the ability to play guard and center.

An interesting note by Benjamin is the fact that Scruggs and Jones can both play guard and center. As a rookie in 2022, Kenyon Green struggled mightily and was one of the lowest-rated guards in the league. If Green's struggles continue in 2023, there could be an opening at the left guard spot.

Jones could play center and Scruggs could play left guard or vice-versa. Either way, the team would have an additional option and better depth.

Jones will turn 34 before the 2023 season, but evidence suggests he can still play at a high level. In fact, the center made his first Pro Bowl appearance just last season. While not an elite pass-blocker, Jones holds his own in run blocking.

Should the team give the veteran a call?
