The Texans will have many new faces in 2023 after being active in free agency and selecting nine rookies in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Perhaps none of the Texans' additions were happier to arrive in Houston than offensive lineman Shaq Mason. The two-time Super Bowl champion was traded to the Texans from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March.

While meeting with Houston media, Mason was asked how he felt upon hearing news of the trade.

Mason credited the "familiar faces" in Houston for making him comfortable with the move. "I've been around Nick (Caserio) for most of my career, so it's good to see him again," explained the lineman.

Mason referred to first-year head coach DeMeco Ryans, calling the coach "a new coach with a lot of energy," and described the Texans as a "perfect fit."

Mason's presence will surely be appreciated on the offensive line. Mason has been a Pro Bowl-level player for the majority of his career and PFF has been complimentary of his performances.

Mason figures to slot in as the starting right guard, and alongside LT Laremy Tunsil, provides a stable veteran presence for the young linemen to learn from.

To secure Mason's services, the Texans only parted with a 2023 first-round draft pick. Mason carries an $8.5M cap hit in 2023 and will be a free agent after the season.
