Although just one season removed, it appears the Texans may have found multiple starters on both sides of the ball back in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Derek Stingley Jr., Jalen Pitre, Christian Harris, and Dameon Pierce all have the look of players who will be around for a while. That doesn't even include two other top picks who have both dealt with tough circumstances this far.
Fortunately for the Texans, it appears that both of these players will be on the field soon.
John Metchie III missed the entirety of his rookie season after being diagnosed with a form of Leukemia. Now in remission, Metchie has been nursing a strained hamstring this offseason.
Per NFL insider Aaron Wilson, Metchie is "on track" for the start of training camp after missing offseason practices.
As for Kenyon Green, the former first-round pick underwent arthroscopic knee surgery back in March and has also missed practices.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans was non-committal on Green's status when asked. Green was originally hopeful to be ready for offseason practices, but that obviously didn't happen.
However, Wilson also reported that Green is "making progress behind the scenes," and is "considered to be on track," for the start of training camp.
Green and Metchie were first and second-round picks respectively, so the Texans are banking on them both to perform.
Metchie will have an opportunity to become the Texans' No. 1 receiver, something the team hasn't had since DeAndre Hopkins.
Green will hopefully become the starting left guard for years to come. Green's improvement will be vital for the Texans' offensive line in 2023.
While disappointing that neither player was able to be on the field for OTAs, it's an encouraging sign that progress is being made.
