The Texans have been one of the busier teams of the 2023 NFL offseason.

On the first day of the legal tampering period, the team made several additions to the defense, including defensive linemen Hassan Ridgeway and Chase Winovich. On Tuesday, the team secured a trade for an offensive difference-maker.

NFL insider Aaron Wilson is reporting that the team has landed offensive lineman Shaq Mason from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Texans GM Nick Caserio is familiar with Mason from their time together in New England.

Mason has played at a Pro Bowl-worthy level in the past and should be an immediate boost to the Texans' offensive line. Shockingly, the Texans only had to part with a sixth-round pick to land the guard and a seventh-rounder from Tampa Bay.

Mason had a solid 68.9 grade from PFF and allowed just one sack in 2022.

This essentially amounts to a salary dump for the cap-strapped Bucs.

Mason stands to make a base salary of $7.5 million in 2023, with a $58,823 per game active roster bonus, which equates to $1 million. Mason will be a free agent at the conclusion of the 2023 season.

The Texans had one of the worst offensive lines in the league in 2023. Adding Mason to the mix along with the continued development of Kenyon Green could turn a weakness into a strength in 2023.
