The Houston Texans have caused quite the uproar this offseason by doing something no one has ever done in NFL history, with the Texans causing one of the largest stalls in a market we've ever seen.
Houston elected to give one of their second-round picks Jayden Higgins, the first ever fully guaranteed contract for a second-round pick. And since only one other player selected in the second round has landed a contract, that being Carson Schwesinger from the Cleveland Browns. That means with training camp around the corner, most of the league has a big issue on their hand involving rookies they used a premium pick on. You would think the Texans feel pretty good about this, given that Higgins is already locked up, but this is also affecting them due to the simple fact that they drafted a second player in the second round who remains unsigned.
The Texans' controversial decision is hurting themselves on top of the rest of the NFL ahead of training camp

The Texans selected Aireontae Ersery with the 48th overall pick in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Ersery joins a Texans team that had one of the worst offensive lines in the league last year, but with training camp around the corner he still hasn't signed his rookie contract with the team. The reason for the frozen market is pretty clear across the league – teams are reluctant to follow suit and give out a fully guaranteed contract.
This situation, however, is a bit more complex because the Texans have already handed out one to Higgins. Which makes you wonder what the holdup is here for the Texans, because from the outside looking in, they seem to be telling Ersery that Higgins was worth that investment, but he isn't. Not exactly what you would want to hear if you were Ersery, and with one second round pick already planning to hold out of the start of training camp, it's certainly a situation to monitor for the Texans.
