Texans sign quarterback Case Keenum to a two-year deal
The Houston Texans needed to pull off such a signing during this free agency period.
The Houston Texans are looking to add a quarterback in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft but they also needed a veteran presence on the team. They get exactly that with one of their most recent free-agent signings.
According to Aaron Wilson from KPRC2, the Texans are signing quarterback Case Keenum to a two-year contract.
The Texans are still expected to draft a quarterback with the second overall pick of the Draft. That was made even more evident when Jimmy Garoppolo landed with the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday.
But Keenum provides a much-needed veteran presence in the meantime. He has 64 career starts, including eight in 2019 in Washington.
Most recently, Keenum spent 2022 with the Buffalo Bills and saw limited playing time in two games.
The veteran quarterback will join a QB room that includes Davis Mills and E.J. Perry. The latter was claimed off waivers earlier this month.
Of course, this is a homecoming for Keenum, too. His career started in Houston in 2013 when he started eight games for the Texans. He was also a star for the Houston Cougars, where he put up a career that earned him 2 First-team All-C-USA. His jersey number (7) was retired from the team.
