The Houston Texans just traded for Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs. While they are still a Super Bowl contender, even with this new news, a lot is about to change, including people's opinions on the situation.

On Monday, a day after they traded for him, the Houston Texans changed a bit of Stefon Diggs', the 30-year-old wide receiver, contract.

The Texans wiped out the final three years on Diggs' contract, giving him the ability to become a free agent after the 2024 season, which tells me that they are going all in on this upcoming year, considering they gave up a second-round pick for Diggs.

The Texans also took the $3.5 million guaranteed to Diggs next season and moved up into this season, giving him a raise and assuring him of $22.52 million in guaranteed money in 2024. But if Diggs plays the way he wants, and Houston hopes he will hit the free-agent market next offseason with the ability to get that last big contract, he may get the rest of his career as he gets older and starts to get out of his prime.

Not only does this not guarantee that Diggs will be with the Texans past 2024, but it also means the Texans won't get a compensatory pick if he leaves in free agency. Removing the final three seasons of Stefon Diggs' contract makes him ineligible to become a compensatory free agent for the 2026 NFL Draft.

This just changed everything. Now, the Texans are hoping that Diggs has a great year, and both are willing to sign an extension. If he doesn't have a good year, it's let bye-gones be bye-gone. With all of the locker room issues he has had, there is a possibility this doesn't work out, and then the Texans don't have to worry about the future and being tied to long-term money.
