The Houston Texans had every opportunity to build on their recent play and get even better and back above .500 on the year. They have everything going their way, but, as we know, in the NFL, none of that matters. Any team can beat any team any week.

This week just so happened to be one of those weeks, as the worst team in the NFL, the Carolina Panthers, just beat the Texans, who are a team hovering around that middle-of-the-pack area. They used to be in the same exact spot as the Panthers but have since elevated themselves as a franchise.

But if you watched this game and hid the records of both teams, you wouldn't have known that. The offense was terrible, while the defense did their job for the most part. There truly is no excuse for the product we saw on Sunday. Even Texans' quarterback C.J. Stroud felt the same way.

"It's not good enough," Stroud told reporters after the game. "We stopped ourselves. It's not the end of the world. We've got a lot of football left to play. I think maybe the bye week slowed us down. We want to be consistent and be a playoff contender and win the division."

Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik and the offense in general just did not look great. The Panthers' defense is no slouch, but the Texan's offense, in general, is good enough to score more than 13 points. That cannot happen in this league, especially for a team trying to make that transition from being a bad team to a good team.

The good thing is DeMeco Ryans and C.J. Stroud have consistently come back and played somewhat better after tough losses like this one. The Texans are still a young team that is very much still trying to learn how to win.
