The Houston Texans have a rising star on their hands and it's about time he's starting to get the national recognition that he deserves.

Texans' cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. has quickly established himself as one of the best young players in the game and is knocking on the door of being the best player in the league at his position.

After his latest accolade, one could argue he already is. On Friday, Stingley was named as a First-Team All Pro selection in just his third season in the NFL. Last week, Stingley was also selected as a Pro Bowl for the AFC roster.

Stingley is the first Texans player to be named as a First-Team All Pro since wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in 2019 and the first Texans defender to earn the honor since defensive end J.J. Watt in 2018.

Stingley found out about his selection during an interview with AP football writer Rob Maaddi. Here's Stingley's reaction to hearing the news.

"That's crazy," Stingley said. "Oh, that's crazy! Yeah, it means a lot."

Stingley has been a lock down player all season long and people around the league are clearly starting to take notice of his game, but his fellow teammates and coaches have been well aware of what he's capable of.

"It's nothing I didn't know before with Stingley," Texans' head coach Ryans said. "He's having a good year. He's been productive. We put him in a lot of different positions. He's just playing at a high level right now."

During the regular season, Stingley recorded 10 pass breakups and allowed a 47.0 passer rating in coverage. That passer rating allowed easily ranks first among cornerbacks with 500+ coverage snaps this season.

The player who admired Hall of Famer Darrelle Revis and his trademarked "Revis Island" growing up is starting to become an island of his own.

Stingley's a huge piece to this team and will be looking to continue his career season on Saturday when the Texans host the Los Angeles Chargers in the first round of the playoffs.
