The Houston Texans have fired offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik and offensive line coach Chris Strausser, per a report from NFL Network's Ian Rap

Slowik has spent the last two years with the Texans as their offensive coordinator. He got off to a great start in 2023 as Houston ranked in the top 10 of the league in passing and points per game. He played a big role in the development of quarterback C.J. Stroud, who went on to win NFL Rookie of the Year.

Slowik quickly became an intriguing head coaching candidate last offseason, but ultimately stayed put in Houston. Unfortunately, in 2024 he couldn't replicate the success he had the year prior. The Texans' offense dropped to 19th in scoring, 21st in passing, and 22nd overall.

Stroud regressed statistically last season, throwing for nearly 400 less yards and three fewer touchdowns, while also throwing seven more interceptions. Offensive line woes and multiple injuries within the wide receiver corps played a role in that, but many felt that Slowik's play calling was abysmal.

Slowik should quickly find another job, possibly as an offensive coordinator. Despite his recent struggles, he's also had a lot of success and is still just 37-years-old. He began his coaching career as a defensive assistant under Mike Shanahan with the Washington Commanders back in 2011.

Slowik then joined Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco with the 49ers in 2017, working his way up to passing game coordinator before leaving for Houston. As for who might replace Slowik as Texans offensive coordinator, Rapoport reported that QB coach Jerrod Johnson is the top internal candidate.

Possibly replacing Strausser could be assistant offensive line coach Cole Popovich, who has 14 years of experience coaching the position both in the college and professional ranks. Strausser joined the Texans in 2023 after serving as the Indianapolis Colts' offensive line coach from 2019-2022.
