The Houston Texans are trading left tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Washington Commanders in a blockbuster deal. Check out the terms below.

Commanders receive:

  • Laremy Tunsil
  • 2025 fourth-round pick

Texans receive:

  • 2025 third-round pick
  • 2025 seventh-round pick
  • 2026 second-round pick
  • 2025 fourth-round pick

The Commanders are also absorbing Tunsil's $20.950 million base salary and his $400k in game/workout bonuses. Combining those savings with the four draft picks they acquired, this is a great deal for the Texans. Tunsil's trade value would likely not be this high again had they waited to deal him.

2024 marked the beginning of a possible decline for Tunsil, committing a league-high 17 penalties that included 12 false starts, and will be 31-years-old by the start of the 2025 regular season. If he continues that trend, this move will be an absolute steal for Houston.

Of course, the Texans now have a need a left tackle. They could consider moving Blake Fisher over from the right tackle spot, or otherwise look toward either the draft or free agency to address the position. Houston now has four picks in the top-100 of the 2025 NFL Draft.

As for free agency, there aren't a ton of great options left with Ronnie Stanley, Jaylon Moore, and Dan Moore Jr. now all signed by other teams. Cam Robinson and Tyron Smith are veterans who could likely come affordable on short-term deals, but the Texans would be wise to still draft a LT to develop even if they do sign a free agent.

Houston has done a lot of work in clearing some salary cap space recently, such as restructuring linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair's contract, as well as releasing offensive guard Shaq Mason. Some of that was done to take on newly acquired wide receiver Christian Kirk's $15.5 million base salary in 2025.
