The Houston Texans have crossed one task off their offseason to-do list with the hiring of the team's next offensive coordinator now official.

According to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, the Texans hired Los Angeles Rams offensive assistant Nick Caley to fill the vacant position.

The Texans opted to move on from former offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik following the 2025 season and are going with the rising offensive mind of a familiar coaching tree.

Caley started his NFL coaching career with the New England Patriots in 2015 and was promoted as the tight ends coach in 2017 on Bill Belichick's staff. In that role, Caley worked with legendary tight end Rob Gronkowski and was a part of a coaching staff that reached two different Super Bowls.

In 2023, Caley was snatched off the staff by Sean McVay and joined the Los Angeles Rams in the same role. Under McVay, Caley started impressing all the right people and added passing game coordinator to his title during the 2024 season.

"He's a special coach. He's done a great job for us," McVay said via ESPN's Rich Cimini. "I love everything this guy is about."

Caley now joins Zac Taylor, Matt LaFleur, Kevin O'Connell, Zac Robinson, and Liam Coen as notable offensive disciples under McVay to land an offensive coordinator or head coach role with another team.

Caley was reportedly one of the top candidates to land the New York Jets' offensive coordinator position under new head coach Aaron Glenn but decided not to pursue the position according to to Connor Hughes of SNY.

That decision opened the door for the Texans to make a move a secure their guy before another team beat them to the punch and Caley landed in another coveted situation in a lead role.

Caley will now get the opportunity to run the offense under head coach DeMeco Ryans and aid in the development of quarterback C.J. Stroud. Working with the Texans, Caley's name will only continue to rise if the offense is successful.

The Texans' offense had a stark drop-off halfway through the season after injuries continued to pile on for the unit, forcing the organization to make some kind of change to get the offense, and their young quarterback, back on track.
