When you watched the Super Bowl this last year, you probably noticed something, something that the Houston Texans need to be following if they want what both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles have — Super Bowl wins.
How do you beat the Chiefs, a dynasty in today's league? Well, you do what the Eagles did, and what they did dominated the Chiefs. You build your team through the trenches. They did that, on both sides of the ball, and they killed the Chiefs. But specifically, they dominated the Chiefs with their defensive line, and every aspect of the line.
The Texans have a good foundation and infrastructure in place to have a defensive line similar to that. They have the best edge rushing duo in the league. However, they don't really have a game wrecker or disruptor in the middle, and at times, the Eagles had two. While drafting a defensive tackle isn't at the top of the list for the Texans, they could easily do it, and that's why it would make sense to make a move like that.
Now, I'm not trying to discredit the Texans' defensive tackles the do have at all. However, the guys they have are not at a star level, not yet anyway. They need a star, and they can get that in the 2025 NFL Draft.
In fact, they have met with a guy who has the potential to be just that, kick-starting the recipe for a Super Bowl.
Texans meet with Ohio State DL Tyleik Williams
According to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, the Texans have met with potential second-round, maybe third-round, Tyleik Williams, who was one of the best defensive tackles in the country last year on the best team in the country last year in Ohio State.
Williams is a 6'3", 320-pound defensive tackle who was great at holding the line of scrimmage last season. In other words, he was known as a space filler, a gap stuffer, and he stays on his assignment. He does what he's supposed to do, and he;s damn good at it. He's an elite run stopper and a decent pass rusher. But the Texans have pass rushers, they need run stoppers.
And, Williams has the potential to be a good pass rusher. However, most of his smaps have been over the B-gap. He's projected as a nose tackle, but he has the tools to play as a 3-technique.
The Texans are certainly interested in a guy who could really help them start to build a defensive line similar to the Eagles.
Houston Texans could be looking at underrated tight end in the 2025 NFL Draft to give C.J. Stroud another weapon
That wouldn’t be a terrible idea.
