There is a reason the Houston Texans had one of the best quarterbacks in the league this season, even though he was a rookie. Sure, C.J. Stroud was already a very good quarterback, and he deserves some respect himself. However, the staff he has had around him has certainly helped.
We know about offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik getting some interest from almost every team that has a head coach vacancy. However, now teams are interested in another coach on the Texans' staff.
According to Texans insider Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, Jerrod Johnson, the Texans quarterback coach, is set to interview virtually Monday with the New Orleans Saints for the offensive coordinator vacancy and is also expected to interview in person with the Browns on Tuesday for their offensive coordinator job.
Johnson is a big reason Stroud had the success he had. Johnson has been in the league for a few years now, on staff by way of an actual role or a fellowship since 2017.
In 2022, he was the assistant quarterback's coach for the Minnesota Vikings, and before that was an offensive quality control coach for the Indianapolis Colts for two years, according to Pro Football History.
Any of these teams would be lucky to have Johnson as their offensive coordinator, and I have to believe that he may get an interview for the Texan's OC job if Slowik gets an HC job somewhere else.
It’d be a mistake if Bobby Slowik left the Texans for a head coaching job
Give it more time.
