The Houston Texans are now a team for which other players want to play. Other players and teams want to be a part of the special things the team is doing. They won a playoff game last season when no one thought they would. They have their staff and quarterback all set, so why wouldn't someone want to join this squad?
Suppose you have been following this team's offseason chronicles. In that case, you know that, just like every offseason, a free agent has either removed a team from their biography on social media, unfollowed the team, or even followed every player on that team. The Texans are now a part of that.
Saquon Barkley, who is maybe the best running back in the league, is set to be a free agent, and he has recently followed several members of the Houston Texans, including C.J. Stroud, Tank Dell, Brevin Jordan, and a few others. When you go to his Instagram, they are the people he has most recently followed.
Now, there are rumors that the Texans are open to signing him.
"It's a case of him [Saquon Barkley] communicating with top players, including CJ Stroud, about a desire to play here, it is mutual," NFL insider Aaron Wilson said.
Now, we know the Texans need a running back, especially after having a poor running game for most of the year last season. In 2022, then-rookie Dameon Pierce was good. He was pretty bad last year and actually lost his spot to Devin Singletary
And while Singletary had some great games, he isn't a guy the Texans want to rely on for a full season. The Texans have the sixth-most cap space in the NFL at nearly $74 million. That's one of the perks of having a quarterback on a rookie contract.
According to A to Z Sports' Free Agency Projections, Barkley's deal could look like this: 3 yrs, $31.5M, $10.5M APY, $15M GTD
The Texans can certainly afford that, but, it's about whether they want to do that. Barkley would look great in Houston blue.
