Texans legend gives his case for C.J. Stroud as OROY over Puca Nacua
The Houston Texans have the best rookie quarterback in the class, and I don't think there is any other argument to be made. The Houston Texans have the best rookie quarterback in the class, and I don't think there is any other argument to be made. Before the season, the narrative was that Stroud would fail because he didn't have the support or weapons around him. Now, it's that he has better weapons than the others. But we won't get too far into that discussion.
Now, we are sitting here talking about Stroud as a top 10 quarterback in the league, which is crazy that the Texans once again have a player that good. Sure, it was hell to get there, but after a 45-14 win over the Cleveland Browns, it's safe to say the Texans are back.
Just what he has done the last two weeks should have been enough to wrap up the conversation on the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. However, there is still talk of Puca Nacua, the Los Angeles Rams receiver, being the OROY.
Let's give him credit, though, as he did just break the rookie receiving yards record. Either way, Stroud deserves the award, and Texans legend J.J. Watt thinks so too.
CJ Stroud is going to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, and it is 100% deserved and the correct choice. It is also extremely unfortunate that Puka Nacua is not going to get award recognition he deserves for a truly incredible rookie season. Phenomenal ball from young bucks.
You appreciate Watt giving Puka his flowers as well, but Watt is right. Let's put it like this – sure, Nacua broke the record, but Stroud plays the hardest position in sports, took a three-win team to the playoffs, led the league in passing yards per game, and broke several records along the way. He has made NFL history so many times already.
Stroud is the OROY, and if he wins on Saturday against the Ravens, if that is who they play, he will prove it even more.
