The Houston Texans received some rather frustrating news on Tuesday morning regarding a nerve-racking injury for their offense.

Texans TE Brevin Jordan suffered season-ending injury

According to reports, tight end Brevin Jordan suffered a season-ending knee injury. To make matters worse, this is the same knee that Jordan injured a season ago. The tight end was limited to just two games last season due to his injury, and he won’t suit up in the regular season this campaign now.

Unfortunately, Jordan is set to hit free agency at the end of this season. He was banking on producing to secure a better deal, but that won’t come to fruition now. Jordan is still just 25 years old, though.

More opportunities for Jayden Higgins and others

With this news, the other receivers around the offense will only have a bigger role. Jordan was an athletic tight end option and provided a different skillset from starting TE Dalton Schultz or even fellow backup Cade Stover. Now, quarterback C.J. Stroud and co. must adjust.

Rookie Jayden Higgins may actually see an uptick in attention in the offense, and Stroud has already started a strong relationship with the rookie in training camp. With Tank Dell already dealing with a long-term injury, Higgins was already set to have a potential starting role. Higgins is a big-bodied target who found plenty of success down the field in his college days.

I won’t be shocked whatsoever to see that play out in his rookie year, too. Houston must push the ball downfield and trust their quarterback more often. Higgins is a key to accomplishing that task.

Jayden Higgins is expected to have a pretty big role in the Houston Texans’ offense. Sure, he’s not the same type of receiver or the same size as Tank Dell, but they have to make up that production somehow. They brought in Christian Kirk and, of course, drafted Higgins’ college teammate in Jalen Noel, but Higgins is the guy who’s supposed to be the perfect guy opposite of Nico Collins. In a way, they are very similar players, and when, or if, I should say, Collins is hurt, Higgins will likely be the guy to step into that role. It happened this last year where we saw Collins hurt, and it could happen in 2025 for all we know. Making sure that C.J. Stroud has enough weapons is very crucial and vital to the development of their franchise guy. And, if Stroud doesn’t have weapons, and doesn’t build that chemistry with these rookie receivers, we could see that affect the Texans in 2025. — Justin Churchill, A to Z Sports

This is incredibly tough news for Jordan, but it does open the door for other players to step up. DeMeco Ryans’ team needs them to do exactly that.
