The NFL approved many rule changes over the last few days as franchise owners met in Phoenix, Arizona for the annual league meetings.
These have become one of the most important dates in the football calendar as the rulebook keeps evolving thanks to proposals from teams around the league.
The Houston Texans, for example, were at the center of one of the recently approved rule changes. It was GM Nick Caserio who proposed one specific rule change that got "overwhelming" approval, per Texans insider Aaron Wilson of KPRC2.
The rule change expands the Replay Official's jurisdiction to allow for review on failed fourth-down attempts, per NFL Communications.
“We rarely put up rule changes,” Texans CEO Cal McNair said at the Arizona Biltmore via Texans insider Aaron Wilson
“Nick had a really good one on failed fourth downs being automatically reviewed, and it passed very strongly, So, that was exciting to see."
Although the approval of this rule change won't be as discussed as the green light to wear zero as a jersey numeral, it will have a bigger impact on the games played on Sundays.
And even better yet, it won't impact viewers' experience all that much. Usually, a game goes to commercials right after a failed fourth-down attempt since it results in a turnover on downs.
While you make a run to the bathroom or to open another beer, refs will be making sure the right call was made on the field.
Gotta give it to the Texans GM. Caserio nailed this one, for sure.
