The Houston Texans made two moves on Monday during the legal tampering period that may have flown under the radar. They signed two guys that the casual fan may not know, and I believe they can change and impact the defense next season.

First, they signed defensive back Lonnie Johnson Jr., who many Texans fans may already know because he was once on the team. But he is back on a prove-it deal, which is what the Texans did with several defensive backs last year.

Johnson had to take the offer and is more than excited about the opportunity.

I seen what Akins did his second time around I seen what Des king did his second time around God gave me a second chance imma take the humble route wit it this time around

In three seasons with the Texans prior, Johnson started 19 games, had three interceptions, and 13 passes defended. Johnson agreed to sign a one-year deal worth $2.5 million.

As for the other potential signing, the Texans went and got one of the best linebackers you have never heard of. As I like to say, he is probably your favorite linebacker's, favorite linebacker.

On Monday, the Texans agreed to a three-year, $34 million deal with Azeez Al-Shaair, a former Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers linebacker who played for DeMeco Ryans once upon a time.

Al-Shaair is quietly one of the best linebackers in the league. He can play a bit of coverage, and he can fly to the ball in the run game. His pairing with Christian Harris is going to be solid, and this is becoming one of the Texans' best signings so far.
