Houston Texans have one sneaky positional need they will need to scout at the NFL Combine that no one is talking about

We have talked about it extensively since the 2025 offseason has started, but that said offseason for the Houston Texans, won't be an easy one. And, there is a chance it's not as jam-packed as the one we saw last season, where the Texans landed Danielle Hunter, Stefon Diggs, and Joe Mixon. This time around, they won't have quite the resources to do as much as they did last offseason.

As things currently stand, the Texans are projected to have around $7 million in available cap space, but that's before they restructure everyone they are able to restructure, and before they cut the players they could cut to save money. Even then, they won't have much money at all when it comes to available free agency cap space. Most of their work will have to be done in the draft.

And, that's okay — Super Bowl champion teams are built through the draft. Look at the most recent dynasty, the Kansas City Chiefs, and all of the rookies they had winning Super Bowls the last two years. The Texans need to get to that level.

Since the draft will likely be their main focus, it's important to note that the 2025 NFL Draft Combine is right around the corner, starting February 27. This is where the scouts, coaches, and general managers will all get to talk to the players for the first time. We know the Texans' biggest positional needs and positions they need to watch, like offensive line, defensive line, and wide receiver, but there's also one other position group they need to watch, and it's not being talked about enough.

Texans need to watch tight ends at NFL Combine

This tight-end group is a sneaky one. The Texans do have Dalton Schultz and Cade Stover, but we know based on his past with the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots, that new offensive coordinator Nick Caley loves tight ends. The depth needs to be better, and even the guys who do play need to be better.

This is a draft class that is somewhat deep with tight ends.

Here are the most notable attending the NFL Combine in 2025:

  • Elijah Arroyo, Miami
  • Gavin Bartholomew, Pittsburgh
  • Jake Briningstool, Clemson
  • Jalin Conyers, Texas Tech
