While they did win and improve to 6-4, the Houston Texans almost lost a close one. Now, the Arizona Cardinals are better than they look, especially with Kyler Murray back, but a win is a win nonetheless.
The Texans have themselves a dog, as the kids say, in C.J. Stroud. But Texans fans have known that for a while now. To me, the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award has been wrapped up for some time now. All of a sudden, the Texans rookie is being thrown into the MVP conversation.
The best part is he may be the best quarterback in football right now. Sure, he is in the MVP conversation, but he may very well be leading it as a rookie. Forget what the box score said; Stroud played one hell of a game on Sunday.
His teammates are even trying to warn the league.
"When you got 7 back there, you probably should be scared," Texans rookie Tank Dell said to reporters after the win. "He's a special man. He's a special football player. He's the best player out there when he steps on the field."
You have to love that confidence by Tank Dell. He knows his quarterback will deliver, and he has all year long. Like I said, though, ignore the box score to an extent. Sure, Stroud had three interceptions, but that doesn't mean he had a bad game. He took shots, things happened out of his control, etc.
The Texans are now 6-4 and seated firmly in the wildcard spot. The team has won those games, but I can tell you right now, if Stroud wasn't the quarterback, they would not be here they are.
