Texans re-sign depth piece ahead of free agency
The Texans lock up a veteran on defense.
The Houston Texans secured one of their own just two weeks away from free agency.
On Tuesday, it was announced that DL Taylor Stallworth inked a one-year deal to return to Houston in 2023. The news came per Stallworth's agent, Brett Tessler.
Stallworth saw action in just one game for the Texans in 2022 after being claimed from the Chiefs in December. In that one game, he collected 4 tackles and 1 tackle for loss. In 6 games with the Chiefs in 2022, Stallworth collected 4 tackles.
Stallworth went undrafted out of South Carolina in the 2018 NFL Draft. As a Gamecock, Stallworth collected 87 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 5 passes defended. The big defensive tackle quickly caught on with the New Orleans Saints and got in to 14 games as a rookie.
However, Stallworth's best season as a pro would come in 2021 as a member of the Indianapolis Colts. Stallworth collected 16 tackles and 3 sacks while playing in all 16 games for the Colts that season. Stallworth latched on with the Chiefs prior to the 2022 season, but struggled to gain playing time in a deep unit.
The Texans sported the worst run defense in the league in 2022, so extra depth along the line can't hurt. This is a position group that I would expect the team to add to in the offseason.
