The Houston Texans made no splashy moves on Day 1 of the legal tampering period during free agency. This upset fans. Almost every fan was sold on the idea of the Texans grabbing guys like Christian Wilkins, who went to the Las Vegas Raiders, or Saquon Barkley, who went to the Philadelphia Eagles.

They missed out on Barkley, Tony Pollard, Austin Ekeler, Josh Jacobs, and Deandre Swift. So, this upset the fan base, and rightfully so, because they also lost Devin Singletary, their best running back from last season. The Texans desperately needed a running back, too.

On Tuesday, Day 2 of the legal tampering period, the Texans made a move to get a new running back, but it wasn't by way of free agency. On Monday, the Cincinnati Bengals announced they were releasing running back Joe Mixon. Then, on Tuesday, it turns out they didn't release him and, in fact, traded him to the Texans.

Mixon is a very good running back, but he is not as good as Jacobs, Barkley, or Derrick Henry, who is still available in free agency. But, he is good, and as we wait for the trade details to come out, it could have been for cheap.

The Texans traded so they could guarantee they get Mixon, rather than Mixon choosing, and the team ended up missing out on another RB again. Mixon was probably cheap because he only had one year left on his contract before he became a free agent, according to Spotrac.

To me, this means the Texans will likely draft a rookie running back to prepare for next season. Either way, they have a guy who can do it all and is only 27 years old. This Texans' offense just got even more dynamic.
