Houston Texans could be looking at underrated tight end in the 2025 NFL Draft to give C.J. Stroud another weapon

Last offseason, the Houston Texans signed former Dallas Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz to a three-year deal after giving him a one-year deal prior. He proved his worth and acted as a security blanket to C.J. Stroud at times.
Schultz was especially good when the Texans started to get hit with wide receiver injuries. And with the youth at the position group behind Schultz, the Texans ended up really needing Schultz. Now, he has two years left on his deal, this upcoming 2025 season, and then 2026, but the contract has a potential out in 2026. According to Spotrac, 2026 shows his contract to have 2.5 million in dead cap, which would make him an easy cut if they really needed to.
That means they may want to get a backup option ready. You want to have a good tight end room, especially when you want to be a balanced offense — it's an undervalued position group, especially in the draft, but it's a very important one. The Texans struggled on offense last year, mightily, and with more weapons around Stroud, they can make the game easier for him as he tries to bounce back in year three.
That may be what they're trying to do. At least, that's what their latest pre-draft visit may say about them.
Texans set to visit with Miami TE Elijah Arroyo
Tight end isn't necessarily high on the Texans' list of needs for the 2025 NFL Draft. However, it is a need. They drafted Cade Stover last year, and he showed some promise, but the Texans ran the eighth-most 12 personnel last season, so we know that they love to have two tight ends on the field. Now they could have their eyes on another one.
According to several reports, the Texans are meeting with Miami Hurricanes tight end Elijah Arroyo for a pre-draft visit.
Arroyo had just one drop in fifty targets last season. He has pretty good hands, along with strong physicality and effectiveness at the top of his routes when going into his breaks. He's an aggressive player who has something to prove. You can watch his tape and see that he fits the Texans' culture perfectly.
But, a pre-draft visit doesn't mean anything. It just means they want to get to know the player better. However, they are only allocated so many visits, so this does mean they are a bit interested in Arroyo.
Only time will tell.
Texans clearly have interest surrounding a player in the 2025 NFL Draft who could relieve pressure off of star defenders
The Texans have a need there, too.
