The DeMeco Ryans era got off to a helluva start on Thursday night after brand new Houston Texans head coach not only took Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud with the No. 2 pick, but decided to trade up to No. 3 overall and snag Alabama EDGE Will Anderson.
It was a dynamic set of moves and it puts the Texans on track for a vastly improved 2023 season when compared to what we've seen over the last couple of years. And honestly, it's pretty refreshing to see a team take advantage of their resources the way the Texans have, so far.
ESPN's Adam Schefter was first to report the details of the trade and there's a lot involved, as expected.
This trade will ultimately come down to how the 2024 season plays out
In terms of known points, the Arizona Cardinals came away with a net of +13 points, which is very good for the Texans, right now. The first- and third-rounders in 2024 will obviously help the Cardinals add to the Texans' deficit, but you're obviously hoping that happens if you're the Texans/a Texans fan
That's because the more net gain by the Cardinals means the better season the Texans had. The more points piled up means the further down the pecking order for the Cardinals.
It's simple math. But, if the Texans end up with another top-3 or top-5 pick in 2024, then it will come down to both Stroud's and Anderson's on-field performances.
But, right now, you gotta love what Ryans and co. are trying to do.
