Top QB prospect could be target for Texans in NFL draft trade up
The Texans could be targeting the top pick in the draft
The rumor mill is heating up with just shy of two months to go until the 2023 NFL Draft.
The Chicago Bears currently own the first pick, but there is increasing talk about the pick being moved. With an impressive crop of QB prospects, the interest in the pick is substantial.
The Houston Texans own the second pick and have a massive need for a new signal-caller. While the Bears appear to not be in the QB market, other interested teams could swoop in and take the Texans' preferred choice.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Bryce Young is the "probable top pick" and the Texans are one of the teams inquiring with the Bears about a trade. Rapoport mentioned that Young's size is not deterring teams from wanting the QB.
"His height is a thing, his weight is a thing, it matters," said Rapoport. "But it doesn't matter enough, from the people I've spoken with, to knock him (Young) out of that number one spot."
While there are concerns about Young's size, the production is undeniable. Young holds the record for most single-game passing yards by an Alabama QB. Young won the Heisman Trophy in 2021 and ended his Alabama career with over 8,000 passing yards and 80 passing TDs.
It surely seems like Young will have no shortage of suitors, and the Texans will have no shortage of competition for his services.
Interestingly, the Texans could be competing with the division-rival Colts. For this reason, the team may be prepared to offer a king's ransom to ensure Young doesn't end up in Indianapolis.
While new Texans HC Demeco Ryans is a defensive guy, the opportunity to draft a potential franchise signal-caller might be too much to pass up.
