Brian Thomas Jr. continues to disappoint the Jaguars after latest update

Brian Thomas Jr.’s latest injury update takes him out of Week 11 and leaves Trevor Lawrence and the Jags without another option in an already deprived passing attack.

This season is certainly not going how Brian Thomas Jr. and the Jacksonville Jaguars envisioned.

The second-year wideout is going through one of the worst sophomore slumps in recent history. This year, he has recorded 30 receptions for 420 yards and one touchdown on 60 targets. He’s had just two games where he’s gone over 80 receiving yards, and he’s yet to break the 100-yard threshold.

He won’t get a chance to do as much this week against the Los Angeles Chargers, either. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Thomas Jr. is expected to miss the Week 11 matchup due to the ankle injury he’s been dealing with.

It doesn’t look like Thomas Jr. will rebound in 2025

He just can’t get it together this year. He’s been a disappointment since Week 1, and it doesn’t look like that’s changing. From poor play to drops to injuries to inconsistent play from Trevor Lawrence, he’s getting hit from all directions, and it will be too much to overcome in 2025.

Just to put the dismay into total context: Thomas Jr.’s 50% catch rate ranks 28th out of 29 receivers with at least 60 targets on the year. That basically sums everything up, right there. No one expected this after Thomas Jr. burst onto the scene with 87 catches for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2024.

The rest of the Jags’ passing attack isn’t in great shape, either. Travis Hunter was placed on season-ending IR earlier in the week, and tight ends Brenton Strange and Hunter Long were ruled out Friday. That leaves Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington as the top targets at wideout and Johnny Mundt as the main guy at tight end.

We’ll see if Thomas Jr. can build up some momentum over these final weeks, but we won’t know for sure until at least Week 12.
