The Jacksonville Jaguars survived a scare from the Las Vegas Raiders last week, defeating them 30-29 in overtime.

Things were made harder for Jacksonville when defensive end Travon Walker was ejected for punching Raiders offensive lineman Stone Forsythe midway through the third quarter during a field goal attempt. The game turned into a shootout after that, as both teams scored on all their remaining possessions.

NFL fines Travon Walker for punch thrown on Stone Forsythe

It shouldn’t come to much surprise that Walker has now been fined $12,172 by the league for the punch he threw, which falls under the category of unnecessary roughness.

Walker was provoked by Forsythe, but he has to be a professional and keep his cool in those situations. He put his teammates in a tough spot last week, and is fortunate not to have been suspended. Hopefully getting fined causes him to remember not to do it again. Coach Liam Coen had this to say after the game.

““I didn’t see it,” Coen said. “I know he mentioned something that was said, but they’re always going to get the second guy. And we can’t have it. We can’t. He knows that. Frustrating moment for sure, but those are the things we have to avoid as a team and organization because all it does is make us a little handcuffed.”

Walker and the Jags will put the incident behind them as they travel to Houston to take on the Texans on Sunday. Jacksonville is trying to stay within striking distance of the AFC South leading Indianapolis Colts, while also keeping Houston off its heels.

A loss for the Texans could be the final nail in their coffin for postseason contention. The Jags currently hold the No. 7 and final playoff seed in the AFC, with the Kansas City Chiefs breathing down their necks.
