The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Miami Dolphins 31-18 on Saturday night to close out the preseason. The game was called with eight minutes left in the 4th quarter when Dolphins rookie receiver Daewood Davis suffered a blow to the head that left him motionless for some time. He was eventually carted off the field and both teams decided to call the game moments later. Here's what happened before the injury:
Trevor Lawrence Exceled
Jaguars' head coach Doug Pederson kept the starting offense in the game until the midway point of the 2nd quarter.
Trevor Lawrence led his offense in exceptional fashion. He was on the same page with every pass catcher, going 8/10 for 92 yards before being pulled from the game.
Jags fans even got a glimpse into the Calvin Ridley-Trevor Lawrence connection, and it's already special.
Jaguars' WR Tim Jones continues to play well and has more than likely earned himself a spot on the 53-man roster, due to his ability to play both offense and special teams. More impressively, he's found a role for himself in a seemingly ever-talented WR room. Tonight, Jones hauled in a 74-yard TD after leaving a Dolphins' defender in the dust on a clean stop-and-go route.
Defense took the ball away
The Jaguars' defense soiled Dolphins' QB Skylar Thompson's night, coming up with two takeaways before the game even broke for halftime.
Jags' rookie defensive back Erick Hallett had the most impressive takeaway, keeping two feet inbounds on a toe-drag interception.
The Jaguars were a well-oiled machine tonight. All three phases did their job and did it well. The Jaguars' close out preseason play undefeated, going 3-0. The focus now shifts to the regular season.
It'll be the real deal when the Jaguars suit up in 15 days. The countdown is on.
