There's no doubt that the Jacksonville Jaguars have a favorable quarterback-coach pair in Trevor Lawrence and Doug Pederson, but Jaguars' legend Fred Taylor might be the one who is most sold on the duo.
The former Jags' running back joined Pat McAfee's podcast earlier today to talk Jags' football, the promising year that lies ahead of them, and the relationship between Pederson and Lawrence.
"They have a perfect relationship," Taylor stated.
"Thankfully we were able to get a coach that's a former player, former quarterback, that can really just communicate with our franchise QB in Trevor Lawrence," Taylor said.
Doug Pederson is in fact a former player and quarterback. As a player, Pederson spent time in the same QB room with passers among the likes of Dan Marino, Brett Favre, and Donovan McNabb. When Pederson's playing career was over, he began his coaching career. He was Andy Reid's offensive coordinator in Philadelphia, before becoming head coach and leading the Eagles to the Super Bowl in 2017.
So if there are two things Doug Pederson knows, it's the QB position and how to win ball games.
Trevor Lawrence should thrive under Pederson- History is on the side of this happening too. In Tom Brady's 2nd year under Bill Belichick, he increased his yards from the previous season by 921 and threw ten more TDs than the previous year. Not to mention the continued success that Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid seem to be expanding upon every year.
QB and Coach stability is vitally important to winning in this league.
As long as Doug Pederson is coaching and Trevor Lawrence is slingin' it, you can count on the Jags winning for a long time.
