It is starting to become more and more apparent that the Jacksonville Jaguars may have to play their backup quarterback, C.J. Beathard, as Trevor Lawrence is in concussion protocol. Usually, that would be something you should stress about.
And yes, it is trustworthy because Beathard is not the talent that Lawrence has. However, there is something that may take your anxiety away.
This game on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is almost a must-win. In fact, in my opinion, it is a must-win, as the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts are both tied with the Jaguars.
The Texans may very well be in the same situation as the Jaguars, just like they were last week, as Stroud is unlikely to play this week, too.
As for the Jaguars, Lawrence is still in protocol, and we aren't sure if he will play. On Wednesday, backup QB C.J. Beathard talked to the media. That doesn't mean that Lawrence won't play, but he can't talk to the media with a concussion.
But what Beathard did say comes off as an advantage for what teams usually go through when they have their backup QBs.
Usually, teams have to change some things up when they play a backup. The scheme may not fit their play style or what they know. In this situation, that is not the case. They are able to keep everything the same.
"We like a lot of the same stuff. You don't have to change many things," Beathard told reporters on Wednesday.
The bad thing is, maybe they do need to change some things up because, frankly, the offense has been terrible. But this offense has worked before. Now, we just have to wait and see if Betahard will be the one under center on Sunday.
