Jaguars coach suggests team should be taking more risks heading into Week 11

We have repeatedly brought it up this week, as the Jacksonville Jaguars' offense failed to score against the San Francisco 49ers; the offense needs more. The defense hasn't been great by any means, but they don't have a lot to work with when the offense isn't keeping them off the field. And they don't have a lead to play with.
As we have stated several times in several different articles, the offensive line has been one of the biggest issues. However, there is one other issue, too. The offense is becoming too predictable, which is leading to other issues. Everything coincides together when an offense or even a defense doesn't work.
In this case, the Jaguars can't take deep shots. They don't take deep shots because Trevor Lawrence doesn't have enough time in the pocket to let that develop. Then, all the time he does have goes to the first read. The Jaguars have to think of ways to make the offense more vertical up the field; that way, the defense doesn't predict what will happen next. Head coach Doug Pederson agrees.
"Honestly, we probably should be more conscious of taking more shots, quite frankly," Pederson said Wednesday. "Again, you get in a situation, too, when you're going against a good pass rush; sometimes, it doesn't give you the opportunity because you have to hold the ball a touch longer.
"It kind of goes back to the protection questions; it hasn't been the greatest, and Trevor has had to get off. We've had opportunities to push the ball down the field; it's just one breakdown here and one breakdown there, and he's moving, and it's a completion for three or four, it's a scramble for four. It's a combination of a lot of things."
The Jaguars brought in Calvin Ridley to stretch the field a bit more and have another elite option for Lawrence. However, they have only been able to do that with Ridley a few times this year. Because of the issues, the offense has virtually no threat downfield.
They can change that on Sunday, as they will play the Tennessee Titans, whose offense hasn't been great. However, it won't be easy. The Titans have allowed the ninth fewest passing plays of at least 20+ yards. But the Titans' offense has been so poor, I think there is a chance we see them unable to keep their defense off the field, and the Jaguars try to wear their defense out.
Whenever that starts to happen, that would be the perfect time to take a shot. Other times they could take a shot downfield would be as soon as the ball crosses midfield, on second or third and one, or the first play after the defense gets a turnover. We will see how the Jaguars approach things on Sunday.
