For Mike Caldwell, the Jacksonville Jaguars' defensive coordinator, Sunday will be a Christmas Eve reunion against his former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Caldwell coached in Tampa Bay from 2019-2021 as the inside linebackers coach. He won a Super Bowl in Tampa Bay, so it's safe to say the place is pretty special to him. He will go back to the city he lived in and had some of the most success he has ever had and see a bunch of people he knew and was around for three years.
But if you ask him, he isn't worried about that one bit.
"No, I'm excited to get another chance to go out and get back on track," Caldwell said to reporters when asked if he would have extra feelings about returning there.
"That's the thing: the last few weeks haven't been good for us. We get an opportunity to go back out there. I'll see a bunch of good faces down there, friendly faces; it'll be good to be back in that stadium. At the end of the day, it's all about us trying to achieve victory."
Caldwell is absolutely locked into the game. He knows that this season could be a do-or-die one for his job and the defense. The defense has underperformed more than a few times this season, and the team as a whole has underperformed a ton.
The Jaguars have lost three straight, and this is somewhat of a must-win game for them. They are in a three-way tie for the division lead. If they lose anymore, they are at a huge risk of missing the playoffs, especially with the way the AFC wildcard spots are shaping up. You love to hear the guy absolutely locked in.
