A lot was made about what the Jacksonville Jaguars would do with the franchise tag over the last couple of months. Tight end Evan Engram was the apparent obvious choice after a career-high 73 receptions for 766 yards.

But right tackle Jawaan Taylor complicated the decision.

Even days after Adam Schefter reported the Jaguars were expected to tag Engram, some NFL teams remained skeptical. After all, a right tackle will always be perceived as more valuable than a tight end.

But Engram proved he can be much more than your regular TE.

That's why on Monday, the Jaguars officially placed the tag on one of Trevor Lawrence's favorite weapons. Ian Rapoport from NFL Network reported the news on Twitter.

Engram will receive a one-year, fully-guaranteed deal for $11.3 million.

Both sides can still work toward a long-term deal until mid-July, which could lower his cap hit significantly. If an extension isn't agreed to, Engram would be forced to play under the tag.

Early reports haven't indicated there will be any sort of friction between the two sides.

In 2022, his first season in Jacksonville, Engram solidified himself as a top weapon in Doug Pederson's offense. He finished the year with 766 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

As a Giant, the Pro Bowl tight end averaged 566 receiving yards per season from 2017 to 2021.
