This move makes too much sense for the Jaguars in free agency.

If you were to sort out the Jaguars' biggest needs this offseason, most of them would come on the offensive line. They need guards and centers and they need depth. They also need some defensive back help.

So far, this team has yet to make any splash move in free agency. All they have done is bring back a few players, and let some walk. So really, they haven't done anything.

But, there is still time despite they have taken a completely different approach than they did last season. This time last year, they were ultra-aggressive, and signed some big named players quickly and to large contracts. This year they are obviously taking their time.

The draft won't be the best way for the Jaguars to go after every need. Sure, you can attack some of those needs in the draft, but we are talking about taking flyers are guys who are unproven. I mean, who's to say that their first-round pick, or all of the other ones even, wouldn't pan out?

You never know in the draft because it's guys who have never played at the highest level. Plus, this is a great draft class, but some of their needs like the offensive line may be harder to come by the deeper they get into the draft with the position they have at every pick.

Whereas in free agency, you are getting proven guys, for the most part.

One guy that is still out there and available in free agency, and is plenty proven, is Rodger Saffold, the offensive guard who played with the Buffalo Bills last season. He could instantly fulfill a need the Jaguars so desperately need.

The Jaguars need a guy who can lock down the interior offensive line on either side, and Saffold has done that for a while now.

Last season Saffold allowed just two sacks and four quarterback hits. Sure, you could say that it could have been more if Josh Allen wasn't exceptional at escaping pressure. But, Trevor Lawrence is also great at escaping pressure for what that's worth.

Saffold allowed 36 pressures last season, which isn't great, but it could have been way worse. But for what you would pay him, I believe that is acceptable.

He is though, just two years removed from allowing just 18 pressures in one less game, which is great. And even the year before last he allowed just 26 pressure, which is good.

Saffold looked like he still has a bit left. I mean, we are talking about a guy who is a Pro Bowler for the last two seasons. I know a lot of people don't care about Pro Bowls, but they have to count for something.

The Jaguars should at least take a look, and think about offering the soon-to-be 13th-year veteran a contract.
